Acquainted with the Night

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain — and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
A luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

Welcome to my blog! It’s my first. For the most part, my life hasn’t seemed anything overly important that needed to be shared with the world. However, I am an aspiring author who will be published in the coming months, and perhaps this will be one way that people will get to know both me and my stories.

I will also be posting various other things, photos of my hobbies, rants on stupidity in the world, and the fantastically hilarious things my kids say. For the most part I try to be uplifting and respectful, but I am human. 😉

I decided to call it “Acquainted with the Night” as my regular job is working the night shift, and given the opportunity, I like to stay on a regular schedule. There are times when I have to become a daywalker, but I am much more rested and healthy (both mentally and physically) if allowed to keep a regular sleep/wake schedule. And isn’t that what “they” have been telling us for years? As it turns out, it is true, at least for me. 🙂

Again, I bid you welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay.
